About Consider Science!
Consider Science! is a project that popularises natural and technical sciences together with active high-school students. Its goal is to motivate young people to take an interest in science, to show them that science is not only dry theory, and that it can be fascinating and open up many opportunities.
The format differs from city to city, but the core idea stays the same. Our events feature high-school students who already have real work behind them in their scientific field, from excellent results in olympiads and competitions to internships at renowned institutions or their own scientific publications.
Besides that, our events offer partner stands with hands-on demonstrations and information, and excursions to interesting research sites. Above all, Consider Science! is a unique chance to meet other like-minded people, get in touch with them and build a nationwide community of future scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.
Our history
Although we have already held a few events, we are still at the beginning. The original idea was born in Pilsen in 2023, where we organised the first edition together with several partners. Almost 300 participants and fewer than twenty speakers gathered there.
A team in Brno, which had organised other events in the past, heard about the concept and liked it so much that they brought it to their city in an adapted form. The event was then noticed by representatives of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and the Senate's Chairman Miloš Vystrčil offered us the chance to host an event in the Senate building. The original Pilsen team took that on. Now we look forward to expanding into other regions, so that Consider Science! can become a truly nationwide initiative.
Our vision
Consider Science! exists as an essential project for popularising science among high-school students. We believe the best way to motivate them to take an interest in the natural and technical sciences, so important for the future, is to show them what their peers have achieved, and that there is no limit in their future careers, not even an age limit.
Consider Science! is run mostly by high-school students, which helps us keep showing what can be achieved already at high school. We are guided by the belief that it is never too early to start.
Our main goal is to raise interest in STEM fields among high-school students, because fewer and fewer of them choose these fields. Science is not only about working in a laboratory. It takes only curiosity and determination, which will certainly serve students well throughout their lives.
At the end of our journey we picture a community of active students from every corner of the Czech Republic. We want Consider Science! to become a name that students associate with interesting information, people and opportunities, and that scientists, engineers, teachers, managers, journalists and politicians associate with the great skills, determination and potential of the coming generation.
